Earlier today we saw the first of the tutorials for the new piece for MazeChess 1.1. Now, we have the tutorial for the next new piece: The Miner.

Step 1: Understand the Miner’s Movement

  • The miner can move only 1 space in a cardinal direction but instead of a move can remove any dungeon adjacent tiles (blocked squares) for the cost of a  move. The blocked square must be adjacent in a cardinal direction to the miner. Once that blocker is removed the next turn the miner may move through that space in a cardinal direction.

Step 2: Set Up the Chessboard

  • Remove all peices from a board

Step 3: Place the Jester

  • Position the Jester at the starting square A1.

Step 4: Add Random Blocking Squares

  • Randomly place 14 blocking squares on the board ( A3,B2,C1, C5, E3, F6, G2, H4, D7, B6, E1,H7,G8 and G7).
  • The board will loo

Step 5: Plan Your Route

  • Examine the board and plan a route from A1 to H8, considering how to navigate around the blocking squares using the Jester’s movement capabilities.

Step 6: Start Moving the Jester (Example Moves)

  • First Move: From A1, move the Miner  to A2
  • Second Move: From A2 mine the space in B2
  • Third Move With B2 now empty move to B2
  • Fourth to thirteenth move: move cardinal directions to h6
  • Fourteenth move:From h6 mine the space in h7
  • Firthteenth move:Fron h6 move to h7
  • Sixteenth move:From h7 move to h8
  • The board will look like

Step 7: Endgame

  • The final board will look like this:
